TRUMP’S PARTY
The conventions are finally over, and what would one say about the two events? There was both hope and grievance on display. The best quote of the republican convention was Trump saying: “we can never have a situation where things are going on as they are today” One party was putting on a picture of what could be and the other glossed over what is happening and projected what was happening now to what would happen if the other party were to win. Everything will be in ruin and he would be an oppressor with the impending dystopia. Guess who’s one is projecting the dystopia? In politics perception is reality.
Trump’s last day of the convention was a medical professionals nightmare, a super spreader event. There were 1,000 people crowded together on the White House lawn that had been prepared for this event. Trees planted by Jackie Kennedy were removed to make space for the event. The first two rows of dignitaries were mostly family and White House staff. The first two rows were all tested for the virus the remainder of the invitees that were not practicing social distancing and the majority were not wearing masks.
The scene showed clearly that Donald Trump has contempt for medicine, for his own doctors, for his own White House guidelines, and the people in the crowd. He only cares about himself and his family. There will be consequences of the crowded mask-less scene. Tulsa is an example where a spike in cases ensued after Trump’s unwise rally there in June.
Trump’s acceptance speech was a rewrite of his 2016 speech. He mentioned Biden 41 times the speech lasted 71 minutes and was boring and lacked energy. It was Teleprompter Trump sticking to the script and no ad-libs. It , however it was rife with misstatements and outright gaslighting lies he has repeated so many times it becomes propaganda. It was a warm night and you could see the perspiration on his face.
Republicans and the party to which they belong has morphed from the republican party to a cult of Trump. Trumpism as a cult has been canonized as of this convention. There is no party platform no themes or promises and when asked about a platform it’s what-ever Donald says it is. It’s more of the same cut taxes, reign in immigration, personal responsibility, protecting gun rights, and federal judges and mostly blaming others.
Donald Trump is the projection master. He gets ahead of the rhetoric by accusing the other of what he has done, blaming Biden for the riots and looting happening on his watch. When you point the error out his minions are all it’s all about “what-about them ism.” His acceptance speech has been called performance narcissism.
In a New York Times article by Peter Baker titled: Trump instead of evolving as president has bent the job to his will when asked in an interview what his agenda was for a second term and Trump rattled off a list of what he has done and would continue to do, which included military spending, cutting taxes, eliminating regulations, reinforcing the border and appointing conservative judges. And he said: “But so I think, I think it would be, I think it would be very, very solid, we would continue what we’re doing, we’d solidify what we have done, and we have other things on our plate that we want to get done.” It is what it is.
One complaint of the republicans about the democrat convention was there was no policy or agenda discussed (lie), however there was at least a platform that can be inspected. The Republican party trashes its platform and any agenda in favor of Trump’s giant brain. You get what you get and don’t have a fit.
