REPUBLICAN’S RANK HYPOCRISY                                                                         

Senators show no shame in their lock step hypocrisy concerning the appointment of a new supreme court justice to replace the remarkable Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG).  Republican Senators show they are willing to lie, adopt, and then overturn unwritten rules and precedent in order to steel power and with no shame, dishonoring their name by lying to their constituents.  The Senate, normally a deliberative body and once known for being gentlemen honoring their own words are no more.  I guess the adage “there is no honor among thieves” applies to Republican Senators today.

 Thanks to a few power grabs by both Democrats under Harry Reed to eliminate a republican roadblock of federal judges and to secure the Affordable Care Act for all Americans, then to one up Reed, the Republicans under Mitch McConnell stooped to a scorched earth policy of steamrolling the total appointment process by elimination of the filibuster that required 60 votes for any Supreme Court nominee making it 51 votes.  These moves have undermined the trust across the aisle.  The divisions are not going to be mended anytime soon, especially when you see the blatant hypocrisy.  The statements shown are actually quotes from 2016 with Obama’s choice of Merrick Garland and what they say now in 2020.

Obama’s choice was March 2016, 7 months prior to the election.  Now with Trump’s potential choice just over a month prior to the election when potentially the people will have spoken (prior Republican argument 2016).  Let’s start with statements by the chief hypocrite Mitch McConnell.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Feb. 12, 2016: “The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president” StoppingObama’s choice.

Mar. 16, 2016: Mitch  said this on the Senate floor “The decision the Senate made weeks ago remains about principle and not a person.”  He also told Obama that he would continue to observe the Biden rule, so that the American people have a voice on this momentous decision.”  

May, 20, 2019: Mitch was asked what he would do if a seat on the Supreme court opened up next year.  “We’d fill it,” He said.

Sept. 28, 2020: The night of RPG’s death mitch said: “Americans rejected our majority in 2016 and expanded it in 2018 because we pledged to work with president Trump and support his agenda, particularly his outstanding his appointments to the federal judiciary” Mitch also said: “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”

Mitch you have no principles–you are now naked and devoted to a cult, any thought of an honest moral democracy be damned. Trust has eroded inside and outside the body along with approval ratings.  Mitch you are a Trumpeter or Trumpophile or whatever your cult is now called.  I guess the Biden rule does not apply if Biden may rule?

Sen. Lindsey Graham Chairman Judicial Committee (One of the only one’s capable of holding up the nomination by not scheduling or holding hearings until after the election, good luck)

Mar. 16, 2016: “I want you to use my words against me” Lindsey said during a Judiciary Committee meeting.  if there is a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let’s let the next president, whoever that might be, make that nomination”

Oct. 3, 2018: in an interview onstage at a festival hosted by the Atlantic magazine he said: “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait to the next election.”  When the interviewer pointed out that he was on the record Lindsey said: “Hold the tape.”  It was, and now being shown to his constituents by his opponent in his reelection.

Lindsey, being a sycophant dotard and Trump’s lap dog are not an excuse for you to discard principles, after all some of your Republicans would say you have already discarded your morals (never being married- and a lifestyle choice?).  You have an election coming up and I would think your dishonesty and lack of integrity should count against you, perhaps not, after all you are a Trumpeter or Trumpophile or whatever you call yourself now.

Sen. Joni Ernst

Mar. 16, 2016: Again this is not about a particular person,” Ernst told reporters.  “This is about the fact  that we have a president who is moving out of his residency and we have a very, very significant election coming up where we want the people to speak out We want to hear their opinion on this.  They will do that by electing a new president.”

July 20, 2020: Joni was asked about supporting a confirmation she demurred and said “We have a Republican held Senate and a Republican president and so I don’t see that there would be any difference between the President and the Senate on a  supreme Court Justice.”  Asked why the voters should have say in 2016 and 2020 she said the White house and the senate are now held by the same party ignoring the people this time saying: “This is a different scenario.”  Ok, how so?  People are people and what if Trump is going to move out?  Hypocrisy? Another of the Trumpeters or Trumpophiles.

Sen. Ted Cruz

When Scalia died in 2016 Ted Cruz was running for president. 

Feb. 14, 2016: The Senate has not confirmed a nomination that was named in the final year. In 80 years,” Cruz said on This Week on ABC. Cruz added he would “absolutely” filibuster any Obama nomination.

Sept. 18, 2020: “We are one vote away from losing our constitutional liberties,”  Cruz said during a Fox News appearance.  “I believe that the president should, next week, and I think it’s critical that the Senate take up and confirms that successor before election day.”  Lock step with Trump just hope Trump doesn’t stop too quickly or he would be swallowed up by Trump.  Hypocrisy reared up when he moved to the dark side and his vial criticism of Trump ended , he joined the cult, since then he’s been Trumps sycophants acting like Trump owns him.

Sen. Charles Grassley

Charles was the chairman of the Judiciary Committee in 2016

Feb. 13, 2016: “The fact of the matter is that it’s been standard practice over the last nearly 80 years that the Supreme Court nominees are not nominated and confirmed during a presidential year.” In a statement he made on the day Scalia died.  “Given the huge divide in the country, and the fact that this president, above all others, has no bones about this goal to use the courts to circumvent Congress and push through his own agenda, it only makes sense that we defer to the American people who will elect a new president to select the next Supreme Court justice.”  And how is it different now?  Funding for the wall stealing from defense funds that were to be used for PPE and N95 masks, writing Executive orders to eliminate environmental laws protecting air and water, and again I ask how?  Elimination of oversight firing Inspector Generals and total secrecy not letting department heads before congress, in their role, to testify before congress is not circumventing congress?  Another Trumpeter or Trumpophile cultist.

July 17, 2020: “If I were chairman of the committee and a vacancy occurred, I would not have a hearing on it because that’s what I promised the people in 2016” 

Sept. 21, 2020: “Once the hearings are underway, it’s my responsibility to evaluate the nominee on the merits, just as I always have.”
