IMMIGRATION

Today, Trump has threatened to sign an executive order (I’m sure he will sign soon) to cut off all immigration and green cards and basically close the southern border.  Trump has already been accused of bio-terrorism by Mexico since he sent 14 individuals back that had the virus.

California’s food crop harvest is totally dependent on immigrant and green card laborers.  Just ask Ronald Reagan. He knew the importance of a vibrant temporary migrant work force.  Reagan even allowed 11 million migrants to become citizens.  California welcomed the migrants, as they would work the crops and return to Mexico to their families.  I guess Trump thinks the unemployment is so bad that the unemployed will work for lower wages in a job that only the migrants will take.  This is a race to the bottom.  The jobs open will be maids, janitors, farm workers and other jobs that normally be filled by green card holders and migrant illegal individuals.  Is this how Trump sees the vibrant economy he promises when we re-open?’’

The problem Trump has is the premature re-opening of the economy.  By his pushing to re-open, will come with a call for no additional funding for bailouts.  Most venues that will continue to suffer even if the governors open up.  Unless a vaccine or other therapeutic is available everyone is venerable, so any venue without the ability to social distance will continue to suffer even though they would be allowed to open.

The re-opening should be data driven not politically driven.  Bad political decisions in a pandemic will ultimately kill unnecessarily.  There are no 50 state solutions.  The CDC and FDA have always been the entities to provide the flu formulation and approve all vaccines.  The CDC and FDA should be in the lead.  Trump advisor appointed to oversee testing was fired from his previous position developing vaccines due to incompetence, so what could go wrong?

If pharmaceutical companies develop a vaccine, they are allowed to charge a market price unlike most all other developed countries.  Thus, a vaccine that has the potential, can demand in the billions?  What could go wrong?  Highest price wins out.  Will insurance companies pay the price?   Will the vaccine be expensive?  Trump has already stated that he has heard (from someone unidentified) that testing is required by some and others say testing is not required for re-opening.  I’m sure his business cronies are for no testing, while all of his medical staff are for the testing.  His own published guidelines require testing. (DUH).

Enough with all the happy talk
